Past Continuous

Formation: was-were + present participle (verb+ing)

Ο Past continuous χρησιμοποιείται για μια πράξη που βρισκόταν σε εξέλιξη όταν κάτι άλλο συνέβη και την διέκοψε 

• She was cooking dinner when Jim called
• I was playing when I broke my leg

Ο Past continuous μπορεί επίσης για παράλληλες πράξεις. Όταν δηλαδή, δύο πράξεις εξελίσσονταν ταυτόχρονα στο παρελθόν. Σ' αυτόν τον κανόνα δεν χρησιμοποιούμε το when αλλά το while 

• My sister was watching TV while I was talking on the phone
• She was reading the paper while he was cleaning the kitchen
